Deva is an ageing coolie with a mysterious past. When his old friend dies under suspicious circumstances, Deva digs into a smuggling empire run by a ruthless syndicate — and discovers that the past he buried is the key to everything.

Story — 7.5/10
The story is straightforward: a retired man with a hidden past takes on a crime syndicate. Lokesh Kanagaraj adds his trademark twists and a web of characters, but the plot is the film's weakest element — a few too many villains, a few too many reveals, and a second half that loses steam before the finale. What saves it is the emotional core: Deva's loyalty to his dead friend, and the slow reveal of who he really was.
Acting — 8.5/10
Rajinikanth is in full mass mode and loving every minute of it — the swagger, the style, the punch dialogues, all delivered with the ease of a man who has done this for fifty years. Nagarjuna is a superb villain, all charm and menace, and Soubin Shahir brings real menace as well. Upendra and Sathyaraj add weight, and Aamir Khan's surprise cameo is a genuine crowd-pleaser.
Direction — 8.0/10
Lokesh Kanagaraj directs the action with his usual flair — the interval block and the climax are staged with real craft, and the film looks expensive and stylish. But this is not his tightest film: at nearly three hours, the film sags in the middle, and some of the subplots could have been cut. Still, when the film is firing, it is the most fun you will have in a theatre this year.
Music — 8.5/10
Anirudh Ravichander's score is thunderous — the background music does half the work of making Rajinikanth's entries feel like events. The songs, especially the mass numbers, are built for the theatre experience.
