Story — 8.0/10
The film's smartest decision is to skip the origin story. We meet the Four as a family already — famous, loved, and a little tired — and the story is really about parenthood: Reed and Sue are expecting a child, and the arrival of Galactus forces them to decide what a parent owes the world versus what they owe their baby. It is a superhero film built on a family dilemma, and that is why it lands. The final act leans on a big sacrifice that is a touch too neatly resolved, but the road there is genuinely moving.
Acting — 8.5/10
The casting is the film's greatest strength. Pedro Pascal's Reed is brilliant, anxious and deeply human; Vanessa Kirby's Sue is the family's steel spine, and her big scene in the finale is the film's best moment. Joseph Quinn makes Johnny Storm funny without making him a joke, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach gives Ben Grimm a quiet sadness under the rock. Julia Garner is an elegant, unsettling Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson's Galactus — a giant in a purple helmet who speaks like a god — is genuinely frightening.
Direction — 8.5/10
Matt Shakman builds a complete world: a 1960s-inspired retro-future New York that looks like nothing else in the Marvel universe, all pastel rockets and chrome. The film is at its best when it lets the family just be a family — dinner scenes, arguments, jokes — and Shakman trusts those small moments. The action is clear and weighty, and Galactus's arrival is staged with real awe.
Music — 8.5/10
Michael Giacchino's score is warm and heroic, with a main theme that feels like it has always existed. The music swells exactly when it should and, crucially, knows when to get out of the way of a quiet scene.
