Synopsis (spoiler-free)
Krish Kapoor is a talented but angry young musician who has never quite made it. Vaani Batra is a shy songwriter whose life is about to be turned upside down. When their paths cross, music becomes the language of a love story that is beautiful, fragile — and tested by something neither of them can control.
Our detailed review
Story — 8.0/10
On paper, Saiyaara is a familiar story — a struggling musician, a gentle girl, a love that faces a cruel twist. But the film tells it with complete sincerity, and that sincerity is its superpower. The romance is given time to grow: long scenes of two people writing songs together, arguing, laughing, falling in love. The second half turns the story into something sadder and deeper, and it works because the film never rushes the emotions. A few melodramatic turns are predictable, but the emotional payoff is real.
Acting — 8.5/10
For two newcomers, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda are remarkable. Panday plays Krish's anger and vulnerability with real fire, and Padda is luminous — her quiet scenes are the film's best. The supporting cast, including Geeta Agrawal Sharma and Rajesh Kumar, grounds the film in a believable family world.
Direction — 8.0/10
Mohit Suri is in his comfort zone, and it shows — this is the director of Aashiqui 2 doing what he does best. He lets the songs do the storytelling, frames his leads beautifully, and understands that a love story needs silence as much as music. The pacing dips slightly in the middle, but the film always finds its way back to the couple.
Music — 9.0/10
The music is the film's beating heart — and the year's biggest soundtrack. The title track "Saiyaara" became an anthem, and the rest of the album, from Mithoon, Sachet–Parampara, Tanishk Bagchi and Vishal Mishra, is consistently strong. The songs are not interruptions; they are the story.
What works
- Two newcomers who feel like stars from their very first scene.
- A soundtrack that became the biggest of the year.
- A love story told with complete sincerity.
- A second half that genuinely moves you.
What doesn't work
- Some melodramatic turns are predictable.
- The middle act slows down a little.
Final verdict — 8.2/10
The surprise blockbuster of 2025 — a love story that makes you believe in love stories again. Go for the music, stay for the performances.
