Years after "Defying Gravity", Elphaba is now the Wicked Witch of the West — exiled, hunted, and fighting for the silenced Animals of Oz. Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness in the Emerald City, about to marry Fiyero in the wedding of the century. When a girl from Kansas crashes into Oz, the two witches must face each other one last time — and decide what their friendship is truly worth.

Story — 8.5/10 (preview expectation)
The trailers promise the darker second act of the stage musical — propaganda, betrayal and the cost of standing alone. The first film proved Jon M. Chu can handle this material with warmth and scale; the question is whether the second act's thinner plot can carry 137 minutes. Two brand-new songs — "No Place Like Home" and "The Girl in the Bubble" — suggest the film is adding character depth where the stage show moves fast, and the arrival of Dorothy promises the story will finally collide with the classic Wizard of Oz.
Acting — 9.0/10 (preview expectation)
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were the first film's heart, and the trailers show both of them going further — Erivo's fury in "No Good Deed", Grande's conflict as Glinda realises the price of her popularity. Jonathan Bailey's Fiyero looks torn between love and duty, and Jeff Goldblum's Wizard and Michelle Yeoh's Madame Morrible loom larger this time. If the trailers are honest, the two leads will carry the film again.
Direction — 8.5/10 (preview expectation)
Chu's Oz is bigger and darker in the trailers — war in the skies, the Emerald City under siege, the yellow brick road leading somewhere ominous. The first film's visual language returns: saturated colour, huge sets, and musical numbers staged like events. The risk is scale swallowing intimacy — the story's best moments are two friends talking — but the trailer's quietest shots, Elphaba and Glinda alone together, suggest Chu has not forgotten that.
Music — 9.5/10 (preview expectation)
"Defying Gravity" set an enormous bar, but the second act's songs are among the musical's strongest — "No Good Deed", "As Long as You're Mine" and the title song "For Good" are all built for tears. Stephen Schwartz's two new songs add fresh material for the film, and John Powell's score returns to tie it together. On paper, this is the strongest music in either film.
